wendy brown was born in Vancouver, grew up in Ontario and attended Ontario College of Art (now OCAD) in Toronto. She worked in Toronto as a free-lance cartoonist and illustrator and later, as an art director in publishing and advertising.
In the 90s, brown moved to Powell River, BC on Canada’s west coast, allowing her to spend more time working at her own art practice. Since then, she has had six solo painting shows and has also taught art courses in the Adult Learning Department at Vancouver Island University. In 1996 brown became the editorial cartoonist for the Powell River Peak Newspaper and has won a number of cartooning awards for provincial, national and international newspaper competitions.
brown now divides her studio time between painting, writing and cartooning. She continues to do the weekly editorial cartoon for the local paper and has written a book on travelling with chronic pain illustrated with over 100 cartoons.
She enjoys travel, music and hanging out with family and good friends and shares her studio/living space with her teenaged cat, Edward.
